Education Opportunities at Real Recovery Sober Living in NPR

We encourage every resident that can, to continue their education, even if it’s only a couple of classes each semester. Pursuing a degree and obtaining relevant certifications is one of the best ways to improve your economic mobility (ability to increase your income), quality of life, become self-sufficient, learn new skills, and prepare yourself for today’s evolving job market needs.

Did you know that as a resident at Real Recovery you can receive an exemption that covers the cost of tuition and access fees to attend Pasco-Hernando State College? It’s true!

It gets better – PHSC’s Campus is located 12 minutes away!

Pasco-Hernando State College has something called a “Homeless Fee Exemption” program which is part of a statewide program (§ 31009.25, Fla. Stat.; 2020) to help individuals and families who want to create a better life but are experiencing less than ideal circumstances. Before you say, well I’m not homeless… well put your ego aside, remember we’re working on a program of willingness, honesty, and humility. Real Recovery is by definition “transitional housing” which means all residents meet the federal definition of “homeless.”

The University of South Florida also has a Homeless Tuition Waiver program, so if you’re interested in attending a more prestigious university then check out USF’s St. Petersburg Campus.

If you’re interested in continuing your education, our dedicated staff will help you make that a reality. This is one area we cover during intake where we discuss your goals – recovery, personal, professional, and education-wise.

What do sober people do in Pasco?

While Pasco is renowned for having the world’s top-rated outdoor activities, we know there’s no shortage of places to drink or score. After all, Tampa Bay is a renowned party hot-spot in Florida, so it’s not surprising that some in early recovery find it difficult to find fun attractions that don’t center around booze. We’ve done the hard work for you and compiled a list of plenty of cool things to do in Tampa Bay, that don’t involve drugs or drinking.

Don’t forget to consider all the outings you can plan on your own, such as visiting a wellness or meditation retreat, museum outings, cultural events, hiking, camping, ski trips, road trips, picnics, and much more.
